Local media has reported that at least 8 people were injured on their way to work, after the prison bus they were travelling in was struck by a roadside explosive device in the Buca district of Izmir. Emergency services have been sighted at the scene. No group has claimed immediate responsibility for the attack, although the PKK are known to have targeted government personnel, infrastructure and security forces in the past.
Those operating or residing in Turkey are advised to be aware that there a number of terror groups, primarily linked to extremist Islamist or Kurdish elements, who are active and carry out attacks in the country. Exercise a high degree of caution and avoid loitering near to security forces, as they are often the target of such attacks. Report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities and remain vigilant.
