United Kingdom: Islamic State Claims Responsibility for Attacks on 3 June

7 killed and 48 injured in attack on London

Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the attacks that unfolded on the evening of 3 June, at London Bridge and Borough Market. A stabbing incident also took place in Vauxhall but is said to have been unrelated to the terror attack on London Bridge. In total, seven people were killed and 48 others injured. Of those, 21 are in a critical condition. At approximately 22:00 on 3 June, a white van ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge. Three men then got out and began randomly stabbing people with knives near to Borough Market. The men were said to be wearing fake bomb vests and were shouting, “This is for Allah.” All three terrorists were shot dead by police, after officers fired an unprecedented 50 rounds into them. Police launched raids in the London suburb of Barking in the hours after the rampage, arresting seven women and five men aged between 19 and 60 at two properties.

This is the third terror attack in the UK in three months following the car and knife attack in Westminster in March, which left five people dead and the Manchester bombing less than two weeks ago, in which 22 people were killed. Following the attack, much of central London was put into lockdown, with tube stations closing and limited bus services operating. The chaos is likely to affect transportation into the city on 5 June.

Those operating or residing in the UK are advised to be aware of the threat of Islamic extremism and terrorism. Report any suspicious packages, activity or behaviour to the local authorities and remain vigilant.
