In ongoing attempts to contain the threat of Islamic extremism and terrorism, terror suspected are being arrested at record rates by the security services. Official figures have shown that there have been 304 arrests for terrorism-related offences in the UK between January and March 2017. This is an 18% increase from the previous 12 months and the highest number on record since data collection began. The increase in arrests in likely to continue, following several high-profile terrorist attacks this year at Westminster, London Bridge, Borough Market and Manchester.
Those operating or residing in the UK are advised to be aware of the threat of Islamic extremism and terrorism. Report any suspicious packages, activity or behaviour to the local authorities and remain vigilant.
