At a United Nations (UN) emergency meeting, the United States (US) ambassador to the UN said that North Korea was ‘begging for war’ and stated that their patience was running out. “War is never something the United States wants… We don't want it now. But our country's patience is not unlimited. We will defend our allies and our territory.” The comments came amid calls for the toughest possible sanctions against North Korea. China, a top trading partner for Kim Jong-un, along with Russia, have called for a peaceful resolution to the looming crisis. North Korea has been under UN sanctions since 2006 over its ballistic missile and nuclear programmes.
