Venezuela: Fatality Reported During Anti-Government Protests in Lara State
Death toll reaches 62 in anti-government protests
Media reports have indicated that one person has been killed after being shot during ongoing clashes between security forces and protesters in Venezuela, near to El Cuji in Lara State. Since the beginning of April, at least 62 people have been killed in a wave of anti-government protests which have paralysed Caracas and other major cities. The current wave of protests and unrest are the most intense and violent that the country has seen since two months of similar protesting in 2014 which left dozens dead.
Those operating or residing in Venezuela, particularly in Caracas, are advised to avoid all large protests and gatherings of people, due to the credible risk of detention and protest-related violence. Seek shelter if tensions begin to escalate. Reroute your plans to avoid travelling within the city in the near term.
