Venezuela: Opposition Calls for Continued Protests on 2 May

Large-scale protesting continues in Caracas

Opposition leader, Julio Borges, from the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) has called for continued mass street protests to shut down traffic in Caracas and other major urban hubs from 06:00 on 2 May. Violent protesting has also continued across the country and in individual provinces, with more reports emerging of protesters having been shot and killed. Some sources have reported 23 people have been killed so far, although more cases have likely gone underreported. The current wave of protests and unrest are the most intense and violent that the country has seen since two months of similar protesting in 2014 which left dozens dead.

Those operating or residing in Caracas are advised to avoid all large protests and gatherings of people, due to the credible risk of detention and protest-related violence. Seek shelter if tensions begin to escalate. Reroute your plans to avoid travelling within the city in the near term.
