Albania: US Embassy Issues Security Message
US Embassy issues security message warning of large political protest on 13 May
On 9 May, the US Embassy in Tirana issued a security message to advise that a large political protest is being planned to take place on 13 May, beginning at the Democratic Party of Albania (DP) headquarters building and ending at the Prime Minister’s office building in Tirana. During this time, there may be disruptions to all overland travel within proximity to the protest route.
Those operating or residing in Tirana are advised to avoid the upcoming protest on 13 May. Even demonstrations which are intended to be peaceful can descend into violence with little to no notice. Leave the vicinity if tensions begin to escalate. Demonstrations in one city have the potential to lead to additional public rallies or demonstrations in other locations around the city and country. Reroute your travel during this time in order to avoid delays to your journey.
