The Islamic State (IS) militant group have claimed responsibility for the attempted suicide bombing outside a police station in Constantine on 26 February. A police officer opened fire on the suicide bomber and triggered his explosive-laden belt, before he could enter the police station. Two officers were wounded but there have been no confirmed fatalities.
Those operating or residing in Algeria are reminded to be aware of the threat of terrorism. Exercise a high degree of caution near government and military buildings and personnel. Report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities and remain vigilant.
