Chaos has erupted, with lootings, rapes and murder being reported on the streets of Brazil after the military police in Espirito Santo went on strike. With officers staging a walk-out over their working conditions, there are reports that thugs have taken over running the Brazilian streets, with people running rampant with guns and machetes, shops being robbed, buses set on fire and bodies left on the roads. Schools have been closed and football matches cancelled in the affected areas due to the lack of security. In reaction to the chaos, the government has agreed to re-open negotiations with the military police, with new talks to begin today providing officers return to the streets.
Those who plan to travel to or within Brazil are advised to be aware of the current military police strike, which has resulted in nationwide chaos. Violence has been reported on the streets of Brazil with an air of lawlessness in towns and cities. It is advisable to stay indoors until the military police have resumed their positions, due to the credible risk of violence. Monitor local media for more information concerning the violence and plan your travel accordingly.
