On 30 May, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) issued an update to its travel advice for Cambodia, advising that commune council elections are planned to take place on 4 June. Political campaigning events will be in progress throughout the country in the lead up to these elections. As such, there is a possibility that election-related protests and demonstrations may take place.
Those operating or residing in Cambodia are advised to be aware of upcoming local elections on 4 June. Avoid any election related protests and demonstrations as even those expected to remain peaceful can see tensions escalate with little to no warning. Plan your travel accordingly during this period in order to avoid delays to your journey.
