Cameroon: Regional Forces Free 5000 From Boko Haram-Held Villages

Regional Forces Free 5000 From Boko Haram-Held Villages

West African forces have reportedly freed 5000 people who were being held in villages by Boko Haram, in an operation which killed over 60 terrorists and destroyed the militant group’s hideout along the Nigeria-Cameroon border. The Nigerian ISIS affiliated terrorist group has been battling since 2009 to try to create an Islamic caliphate in the Lake Chad region. Coordinated efforts by Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad have resulted in much of Boko Haram’s territory being dismantled, however, they still retain the capability and launched deadly attacks, which often target civilians.

Those operating or residing in Cameroon are advised to avoid all travel to border regions where Boko Haram are known to operate. Report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities and remain vigilant.
