Chile: 3 Dead and 19 Missing as Floods Hit Central Chile
Serious flooding leads to 3 deaths and 19 missing
Between 25-26 February, heavy rains struck central Chile, resulting in mudslides and extensive flooding. Reports say that three people were killed and 19 more are missing. The flooded river in the mountain valleys near Chile’s capital, Santiago, have isolated 373 people and the drinking water supply for over a million households has been affected.
Following serious flooding in central and southern Chile, re-route any travel plans to avoid the worst affected areas and remain vigilant. Residents or travellers are warned to prepare for heavy flash floods and further possible disruptions to travel. Monitor local media for more information regarding the flooding. Follow all directives issued by the authorities and maintain a flexible itinerary until the floods pass.
