Last month, 79 people died from H7N9 bird flu in China, fuelling worries that the spread of the virus this season may be the worst on records. January’s fatalities were four times higher than the same month in the past few years. The total number of deaths has reached 100 since October 2016. Authorities have repeatedly warned the public to stay alert for the virus and cautioned against panic. However, the latest bird flu data has sparked concerns of a repeat of previous health crises, like the 2002 outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
Those operating or residing in China are advised to be aware of the spread of H7N9 bird flu. Take the appropriate cautions to protect against illness. Consult your doctor for more advice.
