Cote d’Ivoire: Student Groups Call for Protest Against the Detention of Colleagues

Further protesting likely in Cote d’Ivoire

The Federation of Students and Schools of Cote d’Ivoire (FESCI) have called for peaceful protests in several locations on 28 February. Demonstrators are expected to converge on the Plateau district of Abidjan, in protest against the detention of 10 fellow students being held on charges of disturbing public order.

Those operating or residing in Cote d’Ivoire are advised to anticipate heightened security and localised travel disruptions near university campuses in Abidjan. Whilst the protests are expected to remain peaceful, similar demonstrations have descended into violence in the past in Abidjan. Avoid all protests due to the potential for violent clashes with security forces.
