A protest is planned to take place in Cairo on 16 June, against the government’s decision to transfer sovereignty of two Red Sea islands, Sanafir and Tiran, to Saudi Arabia. The protest is expected to take place in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, starting at 17:00 local time. On 13 June, police arrested several police at a similar protest at the Journalists’ Syndicate.
Those operating or residing in Cairo, Egypt, are advised to be aware of the planned protest on 15 June. Avoid large gatherings and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations. Heightened security should be anticipated throughout Cairo. Road closures may be implemented with little to no warning. Monitor local media for more information concerning further possible protests and follow all directives issued by local authorities. Participants and bystanders are at risk of arbitrary arrest.
