Heavy rainfall in French Polynesia has resulted in the closure of the international airport on Tahiti, for the second time this month, as the floods covered part of the runway. The heavy rain has also prompted local authorities to ask residents of the Taravaro neighbourhood, which is near the airport, to evacuate. The latest downpour comes two days after a fire-fighter was killed when he was washed away while trying to clear a blocked drain.
Those operating or residing in French Polynesia are advised to be aware of continued torrential rain and heavy flooding, which has led to the closure of the international airport. Reconfirm all flight schedules with booking agents or airline representatives before setting out. Monitor local media for more information concerning any further transport cancellations and follow all directives issued by local authorities until the floods pass.
