Germany: Avoid the Following Demonstrations in Munich

Avoid the series of planned protests in Munich

The US Consulate in Munich has released a security message to advise of a series of protests planned to take place between 17-18 February in Munich. Whilst the demonstrations are expected to remain peaceful and to pass without incident, due to the volume of those expected to attend it is advisable to avoid large gatherings of crowds. Leave the vicinity if tensions begin to escalate, due to the risk of protest relate violence. Plan your travel accordingly to avoid protest locations.

A demonstration and counter demonstration is expected to take place regarding a lack of human rights in Bangladesh at Lenbachplatz on 17 February. The demonstration will take place from 12:00 to 16:00 and around 200 people are expected to attend.

A demonstration protesting against the deportation of refugees is expected to take place at Lenbachplatz on 18 February from 09:00 to 12:00. Around 400 people are expected to attend.

A demonstration march supporting the dissolution of NATO is expected to take place on 18 February from 09:00 to 12:00 in central Munich. The route of march is Rindermarkt to Oberanger to Sendlinger Tor Platz to Blumenstrasse to Frauenstrasse to Zwingerstrasse to Klenzestrasse to Gaernerplatz ending back at Rindermarkt. Munich Police anticipates there will be approximately 60 people. A demonstration is expected to take place.

A demonstration protesting against Russian aggression in Ukraine is expected to take place on 18 February from 12:00 to 17:00 at Max-Joseph-Platz. Approximately 500 people are expected to attend.

A demonstration is expected to take place in central Munich from Stachus to Marienplatz from 12:30 to 17:00 18 February, temporarily ringing the Munich Security Conference site at the Bayerischer Hof hotel from 14:00 to 15:00. The group named 'Coalition against the NATO Security Conference' will be demonstrating with the stated purpose of conducting an anti-NATO and anti-war demonstration. Munich Police anticipates there will be approximately 4000 people.
