Germany: One Dead and Two Injured After Man Drove into Pedestrians

One killed and two injured as man drives car into pedestrians

One man has died in hospital and two others were injured on 25 February in Heidelberg, after a man drove a car into a pedestrian area. The attacker, who is believed to have been armed with a knife, was shot and injured by police after fleeing the scene on foot. The motives of the attacker are not yet clear, although the man is not suspected of carrying out a terrorist attack. One police officer commented, “At this point in the investigation there are no indications of a terrorist or extremist background to the case.”

Those operating or residing in Germany are advised to be aware of the latest incident involving a car being driven into pedestrians. Although the incident is not thought to be an attempt at a terrorist attack, in December 2016 a truck was rammed through a Christmas market in Berlin, killing 12 people. Be aware of the potential for attacks to take place across Europe. Take particular care when in close proximity to densely populated tourist areas. Report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities and remain vigilant.
