At an anti-austerity protest attended by over 12,000 people, protesters have clashed with police forces, throwing petrol bombs and flares at security personnel in and around Klafthmonos squares in Athens. Riot police are reported to have responded with tear gas and baton charges. The protest has also seen flights, ferries and public transportation services affected. Protesting police officers have reportedly blocked access to the entrance to a Finance Ministry building.
Those operating or residing in Athens are advised to anticipate heightened security and traffic related disruptions in the city and other urban areas near rally sites. Avoid all large gatherings and protests due to the credible risk of violent clashes with and incidental detention by security forces. Leave the area and seek safe shelter if tensions further escalate.
