Guatemala: Police Arrest Gang-Members in Nationwide Security Operation
Senior leader of MS-13 criminal group arrested
Officials in Guatemala have announced that Pedro Benjamin Rivas Zelaya, also known as ‘the sniper’, a senior leader of the transnational MS-13 criminal group, has been arrested during part of a nationwide security operation. Police also arrested nine other gang members and seized weapons in Mixco and Guatemala City.
Those operating or residing in Guatemala are advised to be aware of the nationwide threat that violent crime poses. Crimes can include murder, kidnap, drug related violence and extortion. Maintain a low profile and vary your routine. In some areas it is advisable to consider contracting a local escort for extended travel outside of urban regions.
