Guinea: US Embassy Issue Security Message
Political parties and civil society organisations are planning a series of demonstrations
On 1 August, the US Embassy in Conakry issued a security message. “The U.S. Embassy has received reports that political parties and civil society organizations are planning a series of demonstrations. According to these reports, demonstrations are currently planned for August 2, August 9, and August 16. Please note that these dates are subject to change, additional dates may be added, and demonstrations could occur in various locations throughout Guinea.”
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. Vehicles attempting to pass through areas where protests occur are frequently targeted by people throwing rocks.
