Haiti: Possible Protests Due to Presidential Inauguration on 7 February
Protests and travel disruptions expected as the President elect is inaugurated
Due to the inauguration of President elect Jovenel Moise, there is an increased risk of demonstrations in Port-au-Prince and other major cities on Tuesday 7 February. Associated disruptions to local travel and to public transport should be expected. Violence incidents often occur in Haiti when large crowds form. Travellers should remain aware of signs of increased tensions in their vicinity and leave an area at the first sign of unrest.
Those who plan to travel to or within Haiti are advised to be aware of possible protests following the inauguration of the President elect. Be aware of travel disruptions and allocate additional time for your journey, bypassing any areas in proximity to the inauguration service. Avoid large crowds, due to the credible risk of violence breaking out.
