Credible threats to westerners and hotels in Baghdad
The US Embassy in Baghdad has received credible threats of possible attacks on hotels in Baghdad which are frequented by westerners. As such, the embassy has limited movements by Mission personnel. Considering the threats posed by the security environment in Iraq, all travellers and westerners are advised to carefully review their personnel security and to live and work under strict guidelines.
Those who plan to travel to or within Iraq are advised to maintain a heightened sense of security and to take the appropriate measures to enhance their personal security at all times, due to the serious threat of kidnapping and terrorist violence in the country. Be aware of the potential for both indiscriminate and planned coordinated terror attacks to take place. Take particular care when in proximity to areas populated with westerners.
