The Israeli military has said that its missile defence system, Iron Dome, has intercepted several rockets fired from Egypt towards the southern city of Eliat. Sirens had sounded in Eliat late on Wednesday, with residents reporting several explosions. Rocket attacks on Eliat are relatively rare. Whilst it is not currently confirmed as to who was responsible for the attack, Islamic State militants in Egypt’s Sinai region have been behind a number of similar rocket attacks in the past.
Those operating or residing in Israel are advised to be aware of the ongoing threat that the country faces from a number of different enemies. Members of both Islamic State and the terrorist group Hamas continuously seek to cause direct harm to Israeli citizens and infrastructure. Follow the advice of the Israeli security forces and remain alert for siren warnings. Report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities and remain vigilant.
