Israel: Protests Possible Following the Sentencing of an Israeli Soldier

Anticipate protests and unrest following the sentencing of an Israeli soldier

Protests may be possible across the country, particularly in Jerusalem, after Elor Azaria, an Israeli Defence Force (IDF) Medic, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the manslaughter of an injured Palestinian man in Hebron in 2015. Pro-Azaria groups believe that the Israeli should not have been sentenced, whilst civil society and Arab groups believe the sentence was far too short.

Those operating or residing in Israel should anticipate possible protests and the associated travel disruptions, particularly in Jerusalem. Avoid all large public gatherings due to heightened tensions and the risk of violence.
