At least one person has been killed and several other injured, after unidentified gunmen fired a number of rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) at vehicles in the Leithi district of Benghazi on 1 May. The RPGs detonated a lorry carrying cooking gas bottles, maximising the damage that was caused as a result of the blasts. No group has claimed immediate responsibility for the attack.
It is advisable to defer all non-essential travel to Libya. There are several rival factions battling for control in the country and violent clashes take place on an almost daily basis and personal safety cannot be guaranteed. Those in Libya are advised to take advantage of commercial flights whilst they are still operating.
