ASG threaten to carry out more kidnappings

There are reports that Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) have threatened to carry out more kidnappings in and around the Philippines, including in Sabah. The Inspector General on the island commented that they are always alert for any threat and are committed to protecting their home soil.

Those operating or residing in the Philippines are advised to be aware of the heightened threat of kidnap in the country and around the waters off the mainland. Defer all non-essential travel to the Sulu archipelago, including to the major islands of Basilan and Jolo, due to the threat of kidnapping and extreme violence. Contract a reliable local security escort for purposes of business and critical travel.
