Morocco: Disruptions Taking Place as Illegal Checkpoints Are Set Up

Possible disruptions to travel as illegal checkpoints are set up in border regions

There are reports that travel has been disrupted in the Western Sahara’s contested Guerguerat district, as Polisario Front forces set up a number of illegal checkpoints in the area. The group was allegedly planning to set up checkpoints on the Morocco-Mauritania border. The Moroccan government has not yet commented on the developments.

Those operating or residing in Morocco are advised to anticipate disruptions to travel in the affected areas of the Guerguerat. Exercise a high degree of caution when travelling to/in the Western Sahara and avoid military installations.
