Nigeria: Death Toll Increases from Boko Haram Attacks

At least 10 killed and over 40 injured in Boko Haram attacks

Reports have indicated that at least 10 people have been killed and 40 others injured, after Boko Haram suicide bombers detonated their explosives at four different mosques in Maiduguri in Borno State in the evening of 7 June. Security forces have also reported that they repelled a Boko Haram attack on Giwa military base in the city. The Nigerian ISIS affiliated terrorist group has been battling since 2009 to try to create an Islamic caliphate in the parts of Nigeria and Cameroon. Coordinated efforts by Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad have resulted in much of Boko Haram’s territory being dismantled, however, they still retain the capability and launched deadly attacks, which often target civilians.

Those operating or residing in Nigeria are advised to avoid all travel to Borno, where Boko Haram are known to operate. If you do decide to travel, remain on high alert and monitor local media for additional security information.
