Last week, two German archaeologists were kidnapped from a village in northern Nigeria. Two villagers were shot and killed during the abductions. The kidnappers have now demanded a ransom for the safe return of the men. The perpetrators have warned police and security forces to stay away, or they will kill the archaeologists. Kidnappings for ransom are common in Nigeria, but victims usually are freed unharmed after a ransom is paid.
Those operating or residing in Nigeria are advised to be aware of the latest kidnapping of the two German nationals. Kidnapping for ransom is not uncommon in Nigeria and armed groups operating across the whole of the country. Remain vigilant when travelling and take the necessary precautions to ensure your safety.
