North Korea has launched another ballistic missile, which flew over Japan before landing in the northern Pacific Ocean. The intermediate-range Hwasong-12 missile travelled approximately 2,700km and reached a maximum height of 550km as it flew over the Japanese island of Hokkaido, before landing in the sea. The Japanese Prime Minister stated, “Their outrageous act of firing a missile over our country is an unprecedented, serious and grave threat and greatly damages the regional peace and security.” The recent launch appears to be the first to cross over Japan since 2009 and comes amid ongoing annual military drills being carried out between the US and South Korea. The Japanese government's J-Alert warning system has advised people in northern Japan to ‘take precautions’.
