A suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) sub-leader has been killed in Tawi Tawi. A spokesman for the Filipino military said that the militant, who was involved in abductions and the drug trade, was killed after resisting arrest by the police and military in the village of Panglima Alari. Troops recovered an M16 rifle, five speedboats and several outboard engines from his house.
Defer all non-essential travel to the Sulu archipelago, including the major islands of Tawi Tawi, Basilan and Jolo. ASG are known to operate in these areas and the ISIS aligned group is one of the most violent in the world, frequently kidnapping and beheading their victims. Clashes are likely to continue between the group and security forces in the near-term.
