Thailand: Heavy Rain Warning Issued for Southern Provinces

Flooding continues in southern Thailand

Just as the southern provinces began to recover from extreme floods over the past weeks, they are now bracing for further floods, as a heavy rain warning has been issued for seven provinces from 27 February to 2 March. Areas that could be affected over the coming days include Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. Emergency units, teams of civil defence volunteers and rescue units have been put on standby due to the adverse weather conditions.

Those operating or residing in Thailand, particularly in the southern regions, are advised to be aware of the serious floods caused by torrential rain and continued adverse weather conditions. Residents or travellers in the above-mentioned areas are therefore warned to prepare for heavy flash floods and possible landslides, the forecast added. Transport services will likely be severely affected. Rearrange any travel routes to avoid the affected areas. Monitor local media for more information regarding the flooding. Follow all directives issued by the authorities and maintain a flexible itinerary until the floods pass.
