Police Uncover Plot to Assassinate Prime Minister

Thai police have said that they have uncovered a plot to assassinate the country’s Prime Minister, after seizing a weapons cache which belonged to a fugitive anti-junta activist. The discovery is the latest of stockpiled weapons belonging to a member of the red shirt movement, a political group who are loyal to the exiled Prime Minister. Dozens of rifles were found, along with grenades and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Nine men were arrested alongside the weapons seizure under suspicion of plotting to kill the current leader of the country.

Those operating or residing in Thailand are advised to be aware of attempts by rival groups to carry out assassinations of key political figures. Expect a heightened security presence in and around the areas where the arrests were made. Report any suspicious packages, activity or behaviour to the local authorities and remain vigilant.
