At least 58 Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) suspects have been detained, with a number of weapons and explosives being seized during a series of counter-terrorism raids in 74 different locations across Istanbul this morning. The police reported that terrorists were planning an attack involving bombs, guns and molotov cocktails in the upcoming days. Guns, four loaded clips, a pump rifle, a blank firing gun and cartridges, 100 grams of cocaine, seven grams of an unidentified narcotic substance, two litres of gasoline and numerous magazines, books, documents and digital material containing PKK terrorist content were reportedly seized during the raids.
Those operating or residing in Turkey are advised to be aware of the current threat of terrorism in the country and continued tensions amid a prolonged crackdown. Refrain from discussing politics in public spaces. Avoid large gatherings and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations, due to the credible risk of violence. Be aware of the potential terrorist attacks to take place. Take particular care when visiting densely populated tourist sites. Report any suspicious activity to the authorities and remain vigilant.
