Ukraine: FCO Updates Travel Advice

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise of an unstable environment in Ukraine

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) have issued updated travel advice to warn that the security situation in the south-eastern parts of Ukraine, including Donetsk and Luhansk, remains incredibly unstable. In the past few days, clashes have intensified between Ukrainian government forces and Russian-backed armed separatists. Since the war began the two sides began, the UN has estimated that there have been approximately 10,000 deaths, with up to one million people being displaced by the conflict. Last week, the State Department in Washington called for an immediate ceasefire as dozens were killed in renewed fighting.

Those planning to travel to or within Ukraine are reminded of the ongoing conflict between the army and Russian backed separatists. Avoid all travel to the south-eastern parts of the country, due to the credible risk of violence. The situation in the rest of Ukraine, whilst more stable, is unpredictable and could change with little warning. Avoid large crowds and prepare to remain indoors should any protests and demonstrations escalate. Monitor local media for more information concerning the situation and follow all directives issued by local authorities.
