Venezuela: Helicopter Allegedly Tries to Bomb Supreme Court

President describes alleged helicopter explosion as a terrorist attack

It has been reported that a helicopter tried to bomb the Supreme Court in Venezuela, in what the President is referring to as a terrorist attack. According to government spokesmen, an army officer took a police helicopter and circled over the city, before a large explosion was heard. The officer believed to have seized the aircraft has issued a video statement condemning the government. There are no reports of anyone being killed or injured.

Those operating or residing in Venezuela are advised to be aware the country is in a deep political and economic crisis. There have been almost daily protests against Maduro’s government since 1 April and over 70 people have been killed in protest-related violence. Avoid all large protests and gatherings of people, due to the credible risk of detention and protest-related violence. Seek shelter if tensions begin to escalate. Reroute your plans to avoid travelling within Caracas in the near term.
